With a new month, a new stone of the month. This month I have chosen Jasmine White limestone, possibly the whitest and most delicate limestone currently available.
Originally from Turkey, Jasmine White limestone has a consistent off-white background, with an occasional light flame and scattered tiny darker fossils. This delicate limestone is ideal any contemporary project where a clean and rather consistent colour is chosen. The fine and low density fossilling on A Grade Jasmine White facilitates an easy transition from ceramic tile usage to natural stone colour and texture, giving a smooth warm feel with its honed finish. In quality and class this elegant limestone is only comparable to the best selections of Portland stone – but at a fraction of the cost.

Rigidity (BBRI – test report): 11.9 N/mm²
Wear resistance (Amsler – BBRI test report): 6.52 mm/1000m
Wear resistance (Capon – BBRI test report): 35.33 mm

Properties and use
Due to its wear resistance (class 3), it is suitable, after sealing, for most internal uses, including flooring, wall cladding and certain bespoke stonework, such as vanity tops and bath surrounds, ideally in domestic housing. Jasmine White limestone is frost resistant, but i suggest limiting its outdoor use to wall cladding. The stone’s material and finish should be selected to suit the area it is being applied to. We have been using this material on a number of projects, including the restoration of a residential propriety in Wedderburn road, in North West London.
Origins
Jasmine White is quarried in Turkey. Because of its geographical location, the quarry is workable all year round. It has up to 6 tradable quality selections, but the 1st and 2nd quality selections are the only export qualities. High productive efficiency and the homogeneity of the quarry allow a productive capacity of up to 40,000 cbm/year.
Jasmine White limestone is easily available, even in large quantities, both in tile and slab formats. The surface is honed, which means it has been worked down to a smooth, flat surface, which is easy to clean and maintain, and feels smooth under your feet. The clean edges of honed limestone floor tiles enable the design to have minimal grout lines and a sophisticated and modern look. If a polished finish is required, while retaining all the features and appeal of limestone, a good option would be Medras Beige polished limestone tile.
